About Us

TOBA Yachting provides reliable yacht survey services in accordance with international standards through an operational network extending from the Mediterranean to Australia.

Our founder, Cihan Barış, studied Maritime Business Administration and Commercial Yacht Master (500 GT) at Dokuz Eylül University Maritime Faculty in İzmir. He later travelled to Australia to obtain the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore certificate issued by the UK-based Royal Yachting Association (RYA), one of the world’s leading yachting authorities. This qualification can only be earned through practical training in tidal ocean waters and was successfully completed.

The approximately eight-month program, built on practical seamanship and real-world challenges, required at least 2,500 nautical miles of navigation experience including day and night crew management at sea. It also involved practical scenarios such as blind pilotage, where visibility is zero and electronic navigation aids are unavailable. Candidates qualify only after a three-day ocean examination, with a pass rate of roughly 50 percent.

After the vessel he commanded in Australia entered refit, he decided to transfer his sea experience into the technical field. He then completed a two-year training program with the UK-based International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS), one of the most respected surveyor training and accreditation bodies worldwide, earning the Large Yacht Surveying diploma. Today, as an Associate Member, he leads an internationally operating team within TOBA Yachting, delivering services primarily across Türkiye (Turkey) and Australia.
